When I was 8 years old, I asked my parents for a typewriter.  They told me that, for my birthday, I could get a typewriter or a bicycle.  A bicycle was the popular 8th birthday gift for all of my friends and crucial to an elementary school social life.  My choice was simple.  Almost thirty years later, I still have the typewriter.
